Alternative To

AlternativeTo is "a new approach to finding good software". There mission is to offer alternatives to software products.  For instance, if you select Microsoft Office you would offered NeoOffice, Google Docs, etc.  This is a brilliant idea and a great site.  The suggestions are not always free, but the are listed clearly and reviewed succinctly.  Teachers are students can use this site to find alternatives to more expensive software and also see options that they have when wanting to use software for a specific purpose.
